Reiki is based on the belief that a universal life energy flows through all living things. When this energy is low or blocked, people are more likely to feel stress or get sick. Reiki practitioners aim to restore and balance this energy to promote relaxation, healing, and emotional well-being.
Reiki is typically practiced through light touch or by placing hands just above the body. A session usually lasts 45–60 minutes. The recipient lies down fully clothed while the practitioner moves their hands over various parts of the body, focusing on energy centers (similar to chakras).
The practitioner is thought to act as a conduit for universal energy, allowing it to flow into the recipient to support the body’s natural healing processes.
Although Reiki is considered a complementary therapy (not a substitute for medical treatment), many people report benefits like:
Deep relaxation and stress reduction
Relief from anxiety and depression
Decreased pain or tension
Improved sleep
A sense of emotional balance or clarity
Enhanced recovery from illness or surgery
